When American Folk Songs Go Asian

On Friday while I was at work, I was in the lunch room helping to set up for "Free Breakfast Fridays". It is a good spread.. I can't eat most of it but if I could, I would eat most of it. There are trays of fruits, yogurt, bagels, donuts, pastries. I can only eat the fruit sadly.

Anyways, I was washing some grapes and one of the other ladies who usually doesn't help out asked what she could do to help. I asked her to take the "clementines" and put them in the fruit bowl. She stared at me with a blank face.. " The clementines, you know, mandarin oranges" as I pointed to the bag of oranges. She was like.." Oh, why is it called a Clementine?"  " It is named after a girl named Clementine." ( A completer fabrication on my part.. oh well).... " You know, like the song.. Oh, My Darling Clementine." Then.. I started singing the song like Huckleberry Hound. She stared at me as if I had grown heads.. with teeth.. covered in pus. This had made her soo upset, that the song is about a girl who dies in a river.  "How do you know this song? Do they teach it to you in school?" " Yea, I am from the states, they cover the gold rush and this song is part of the curriculum". She then explained to me.. that the tune, in China. is a HAPPY NEW YEAR SONG! I was able to confirm this on the internets!

It blows my mind.

Other mind things.. The Myth of Joyful Parenthood: The Ultimate Cognitive Dissonance? is an really cool article about how parents trick themselves emotionally and mentally into believing that have kids is THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD. When really.. it is kinda a piss off. You spend all of your time and energy into raising the little retards.. and they will never fully GTF out of your hair. Even when they themselves have larva. :D I still want them. I like being miserable.

The other day my husband said, " Guess what, they are re-re-re-releasing The Trilogy" , And well, eat a dick George Lucas, There is no reason why you need to add an extra :11 seconds of a pan out of the door to Jaba's Hideout. NO REASON!

So, when we told this to our friends Clinton and Cory, they had mentioned that they were watching the second trilogy and how they were able to rewrite the original trilogy to coincide with the second trilogy and how that, it only took them 10 minutes to fix it. :D Well, Cracked.com had the same idea.. and many more for other movies.

Calm down Anne, read about the 40 Noises That Build Pop Music. On the list in the Theremin, the Piano Glissando, Reverse Taping and my personal favorite.. oh do whatever the hell you want to do :D.

Today was John Lennon's birthday. He would have been 70.

I am a Beatles fan. I remember the first time I listened to them and had a connection. I had a friend when I was really young, she was a few years older than me. Our parents used to be friends. She went through her Beatles phase when she was in the 4th grade.. I idolized her, so I started mine when I was in the 2nd grade. I never stopped being a fan.

John Lennon was my second favorite Beatle. My Favorite is George Harrison.. (I was mortified when he died.. a long deep depression!)

I have a tattoo on my back it is of 4 hearts. This is because when I was young, I saw the movie Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.. and I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED HEARTS ON ME!

I guess I feel obligated to celebrate him, since he was just a great person. I am sad that I never got to see you in person.
